Outreach Ministries

 

Listed below is a sampling of outreach ministries that take place at Morningside Lutheran Church. For more information on any of these ministries, please contact the Social Concerns committee chairperson or the church office. 

 

Help Stop Hunger!

 

MLC is again working with other churches to support the food pantry at the Center for Siouxland. We will be collecting food items the entire month of April. Grocery sacks will be available in the Narthex, and bulletin inserts will list the items needed. Please take a sack or insert and bring the items to the church by April 30th.

Penny-a-Meal

 

Donations to this program go to purchase school supplies for Siouxland children, gifts for the homebound, and military care packages.

MLC Food Pantry

 

Congregation members donate food that benefits the less fortunate in Siouxland. 

 

Crop Walk

 

Each fall, money is raised that goes to benefit local and world hunger. In 2007, MLC had over 30 walkers who raised $3900. Over $20,000 was raised in Sioux City.

Christmas Giving Tree

 

Each Christmas, gifts are given by congregation members that benefit 11 local agencies for 235 people throughout Siouxland.

 

Prison Ministry

 

Monthly visits are made to area prisons in South Dakota and Iowa.

Nursing Home Visits

 

Congregation members bring videotapes of Sunday worship services to local nursing homes each week.

 
 

Thanksgiving Food Sacks

 

Each November, MLC members fill brown grocery sacks with food that benefits local agencies. In November of 2007, 220 sacks of food were collected.
